Internet Radio Under Attack!

There is trouble afoot in the halls of government. Plans are being made to super-regulate internet radio, by charging hefty tariffs, and thereby silencing radio voices from all over the globe. ( it will start in the US, but will surely happen in other countries as well).  Stations like ours, Sweewater Folk, are threatened – as well as other internet radio stations and live streaming of existing radio stations. This scheme has seemed to come on rather suddenly, which makes it harder to fight. I have just written my Congressman about my concerns on this issue, and I would ask that you do so as well. I don’t know if we can affect change this quickly…..but we will find our world a quieter, less interesting place if we don’t at least try. The copy below is from Live365.com. Please visit the link given and go from there. In the time that Sweetwater Folk has been on the air at Live365.com, we have seen added awareness of mountain and hammered dulcimer music, not only here in the US, but around the world as well. We have listeners from Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Spain and many, many more. If the dulcimer world loses this valuable resource, our music will not be able to find those eager, listening ears around the globe….and at home. Please join us in this fight. Sweetwater http://www.live365.com/info/royalties.html The unfair, ex post facto CRB determination on Internet radio royalties imperils webcasters, particularly Live365's ability to help make the small webcasters’ voice heard on the Internet. It threatens listening experiences of millions of Internet radio listeners. Check out the above link on how you can help in our petition for overturning the CRB determination and in our fight to save Internet radio. Find details there on what to tell your Senators and Representatives and how to contact them Note: these rulings will affect programs you hear on NPR, WYSO (online streaming) and some of the other wonderful radio that is bringing people together the world over. NPR and Clear Channel (the largest radio entertainment company in the US) and other companies are bringing suit against this legislation. They probably cannot stop it - but may succeed in altering the system of measurement or fee scale. Please read this link from Forbes Magazine... (below) From Forbes online: http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/03/19/ap3531170.html Have you found any information on this issue that you would like to share? Please send the link to: radio[at]cindyfunk.com Update: March, 2008. I have not heard anything new on this issue since July 2007. The last I heard, there was still negotiations going on. I will make sure to update this item if anything new happens. For now, no news may really be good news.......
