The fast-rising Canadian band Genticorum is a Québécois acoustic power trio with a distinctive sound
that is at once both ancient and modern—what Sing Out calls “a very full and glorious noise, both instrumentally and vocally.” The charismatic young group (Pascal Gemme, Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand, Yann Falquet) has captivated audiences in 15 countries with its fresh take on traditional European and North American folk music that combines precise and intricate fiddle and flute work, songs sung in French, gorgeous vocal harmonies, energetic foot percussion and the characteristic and irrepressible joie de vivre that’s at the heart of Québécois music. The band is nominated for three Canadian Folk Music Awards this year: Ensemble of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, and Nagez Rameurs is nominated for Traditional Album of the Year.

RIP Tom Scheidt
Contributed by: cindy | Views::180
Many of us in this area are still struggling with the news that local musician Tom Scheidt has succumbed from a serious fall. It seems impossible that such a well-loved man, who never really stayed still for long, is gone.

Please visit these sites, and leave a remembrance of Tom, as others have:

Videos you need to see on YouTube!
Contributed by: cindy | Views::518
Hi!
I'm putting some links to videos here.....videos that you need to see. There are some amazing clips of legendary celtic music performances on YouTube. Some new material, some vintage recordings that pretty much have never been seen.
NEW!!!
A new video has just been uploaded to YouTube from the great Australian group, David Hyams and the Miles to Go Band. I love this track.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0LuSs8Gm9I
This video is tons of fun! And if it won't get you singing and maybe even dancing, then you'd better have your blood pressure checked!! This comes from a school in Scotland - and you can see, the whole school gets in the act!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrNLm0w0mDs
And another that I MUST share with you. These videos are from an excellent Canadian program called One Warm Line, about Stan Rogers. This is just one from the series. But it gives you an idea how excellent they all are, and how wonderful Stan Rogers was. If you have no Stan Rogers music in your collection....then your collection is not complete!
Enjoy.....................

And, if there are some stellar videos you've found on YouTube, send the link to me at:
wyso@cindyfunk.com. I'll check them out, and will possibly post them here.
Have fun,
Cindy
A quote I love...

I just came across this great quote. Love it!
The word "Celtic is a magic bag, into which anything may be put, and out of which almost anything may come. . .
Anything is possible in the fabulous Celtic twilight."
